    On January 1, 2013, the North County Women's Shelter & Resource Center and the Sexual Assault Recovery & Prevention Center of SLO County merged into a new organization serving both victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as their loved ones. On August 22, 2013, the name was officially changed to RISE, with the tagline– Respect. Inspire. Support. Empower. We believe RESPECT is the cornerstone to ending violence and creating peace. We INSPIRE the community to be active in the movement to end gender-based violence. We SUPPORT loved ones of those affected by sexual assault/abuse and intimate partner violence. We EMPOWER victims to heal from trauma and transform their lives. Together, the agencies have over 65 years of experience and provide the following services: 24-hour crisis line, case management, restraining order assistance, accompaniment and advocacy, prevention education, self-defense workshops, two safe houses and individual and group counseling. All services are provided confidentially, free of charge and in Spanish to anyone (adults and children, women and men) who has been directly or indirectly impacted by intimate partner violence or sexual assault/abuse.


    Reporting to the Associate Director, the Counseling Services Director plans, organizes staff, and directs the counseling program on a daily operational basis. The Counseling Services Director functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the agency and in line with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, which oversees the profession. This position is 28 hours per week and pay depends on experience.


    Management of Therapists as Employees

    • Provide direct supervision of volunteer therapists, staff therapists, and shelter therapists.
    • Evaluate and manage therapists for agency.
    • Evaluate therapists for their graduate school program if they are a Trainee.

    Supervision of Clinical Therapy

    • Knowledge of guidelines and regulations pertaining to therapy in an agency.
    • Oversee and review clinical paperwork.
    • Manage clinical cases.

    Management of Programming

    • Attend and actively participate in counseling services meetings, staff meetings, and management meetings./li>
    • Update, develop and implement agency forms related to counseling department./li>
    • Help make programming decisions regarding counseling programs./li>
    • Perform other duties as outlined by Associate Director, such as, but not limited to, attending meetings outside of the agency, providing training to staff or volunteers.


    The Counseling Services Director is thoroughly committed to RISE’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, management ability and therapeutic experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

    • An MA/MS, with at least 2 years of licensed experience in the field of SA/IPV.
    • Unwavering commitment to a quality counseling programs.
    • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop a high-performance counseling team, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage the counseling budget.
    • Ability to work with other agencies and foster good relationships and professional respect.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
    • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.


    • All RISE staff and volunteers must complete a live-scan (paid for by the agency).
    • Must possess a valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
    • All RISE staff and volunteers must complete 65-hr California State Certified Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Crisis Counselor Training (provided as on-the-job training).
    • All therapists and supervisors must have the necessary education and experience required for providing therapy and/or supervision.
    • All therapists and supervisors must carry their own liability insurance naming agency as additional insured.
